Game Art Lead 4L Games | Part-time, Contract

4L Games is an indie development studio incubated at Guru Studio in the heart of downtown Toronto. The team is comprised of artists, designers and game developers who share a passion for creating exciting content. The studio’s first mobile game, FRACTER (www.fractergame.com), was released in 2018 with very positive reviews from gamers world-wide.
4L Games is looking for a Game Art Lead to join us on a part-time contract (2 days a week). This person will be passionate about the Video Game industry and will work within a fast-paced environment, mentor the team, and work with Art and Creative Directors to achieve consensus in order to maintain a consistent visual style across a large range of art assets for a thrilling stealth game developed for consoles.

Responsibilities:
Work with the Art Director and Creative Director to create, implement and manage the direction and quality of 2D and 3D assets
Solid knowledge of the UNITY art pipeline
Work with artists internally and externally to create and implement 2D and 3D assets
Collaborate with the technical team to optimize the art environment and maintain optimum performance across all art assets
Collaborate with art and technical teams to define and maintain processes and pipelines for internal and external teams
Collaborate closely with the design team on all art content and user interface design
Work closely with the marketing and business teams to develop an artistic style and key marketing art for target markets
Collaborate with the production staff to create and maintain project schedules and deliverables
Qualifications:
6+ years’ experience in the game industry
2+ years in an art leadership role as a game developer
Must have shipped minimum 2 games in a lead artist role
Experience planning and scheduling art pipelines for large collections of 3D assets
Experience using proprietary editors, software and tools
Shipped at least 2 downloadable titles as an artist
Strong foundation knowledge in traditional art and ability to ensure that game art reflects visual direction in concept art even when optimized
Experience with user interface design and development including icon development, game flow, and font creation
Ability to manage and maintain relationships with publishing and development partners as well as outside vendors and outsourcing teams
Excellent collaboration and communication skills and the ability to problem solve issues that involve multiple disciplines
Ability to understand and communicate visual direction through words and images
Expert level knowledge in Max, Maya, or other 3D software
Expert level knowledge in Photoshop
Solid grasp of performance optimization processes and mobile game-art constraints
Understanding of the construction and application of materials and shaders
Self-driven, organized and quality oriented
